It seems like a good time for a long overdue update. I have actually been quite busy working on the next album over the past few months, trying to get song after song finished. But are they ever really finished? At some point you have to say "yes" and move on.

It has been a building process though, and I'm a whole lot closer to having the second album completed. All the vocals have been recorded and all the songs are essentially finished except for blips and blobs here and there that still need work. I'm in the process of mixing the remaining vocals into the songs that still need them, while simultaneously moving toward finished mixes of each song. The work is finally coming together and i'm somewhat optimistic I can shoot for a late winter/early spring release. After all, it has been 4 years since "Getaway" was released (I can't believe it has been that long!), and I wish I could have been further along on all this. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

At this point it looks like there will be 11 songs on the main album and then a single release which will have 2 alternate tracks and 3-4 remixes. All told there should be about 16-17 tracks. More updates in the not-too-distant future.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

It has been a little while since i've posted. Despite that, I have actually been working very hard on the songs for the next album. I even have a pretty good idea of what the name of the album will be, but the idea is still marinating. As for the music, it is coming along and I'm excited about getting them out there at last. I'm also 95% certain of what the single will be (although I still have to put a remix – or two – of the song together as well). So, while I still have a lot of work to do, I'm hoping that I can get everything wrapped up this fall. Fingers crossed!

Two New Free Downloads - Illumine Remix & Remaster

The download period for "Sometimes" is over, but I've released a couple of new (limited time only) free downloads that I hope everyone will enjoy. I took a few days off from working on the new album to do a new remastered version of the instrumental "Illumine", which I've always really liked. So, I thought it would be fun to revisit it and see what I could come up with for a remix. It took a couple days to create this new extended version, but I'm really happy with the results. I consider it to be more of a B-side (can I still say that these days?), but for it's had this hypnotic feel to it. I'd say it has more of a chill-out, hanging-out-in-the-airport-by-yourself feel to it. But you can decide for yourself.

I am still working on all the songs as often as I can. Lately I've been recording and comping vocals, refining mixes, and working on a couple things I wasn't originally planning to do. It may be that I'll be looking to release between 14-16 tracks on the next album. It's a very slow process, but progress is being made.

The new website is launched! It finally became to redesign the look and feel, and completely consolidate the old website. Now instead of four or five pages to get where you need to go, you'll find just one. Play some songs (buy some songs), catch some tweets, and hit the links to other Hypersoul locations. It's hoped that you'll experience a much simpler and better looking site. Enjoy!

The Work Continues...

Spring is finally coming around. I much prefer warm weather to cold and the temps are starting warm up. Winter has been cold.

Work on the next album is still progressing. I have made headway with the songs, so I'd say i'm past the middle at this point. Still don't know when the release will happen, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Some of the songs that will be on the next album, in no particular order: Hold My Breath, Walk Away, Two Faces, Free, The One, and Life Out Loud. It's a slow process, but I like where everything is going.

In the mean time I am spending a lot of time playing soccer on my Over 30 Men's team in Raleigh. We recently played in the NC State Cup final, but lost 4-1. We still have an eye on playing in the Southeast Regionals in a few months. We'll see. We also lost 4-3 in the final of the Seaside Classic Tournament, Open Division in Wilmington in February, but at least I got a goal out of it. For now it's back to league matches. We're 1-0 so far and have a double-header this weekend. Staying in shape is a full-time job in itself.

Somewhere in the Middle

Greetings! It seemed like a good time to send out an update on the
music now that summer is about over. I have been getting a good amount
of work in on the music, but it has still been a pretty slow process.
It's still impossible to say when the next album will be done. I'm
more or less working on a pool of 18 songs from very new to fairly
old. The lyrics are mostly done on about 11 songs, with the rest still
kind of waiting for some inspiration to hammer home. I've got a good
idea of how all the mixes will go on each of them, so to that end a
lot of them are firmed up. I'll probably shoot for 11-12 songs on the
next album, with some sort of single release that will include other
songs as B-sides, and some remixes. All that's still down the road of
course since I have no idea which song will be the single. So, with
the number of songs I am pouring over, the process is taking its sweet
time. But I like where things are heading. I'm much further along than
the last time I posted. You can always follow me on twitter if you're

Checking In!

Just another quick post to let everyone know that I am still working on the next album. It is further along than the last time I wrote here, but there is still a very long way to go. Some songs seem to just take care of themselves, while others you really have to work at to get them to the level you think they need to be at. Still, as you get one song elevated and much closer to something you might consider finished, there's another song that's way down at the bottom that needs to be pulled up to the rest. And so it goes, a constant see-saw of work, until the songs all eventually fit into place.

So, I still have no idea when the album will be finished, but I am working on it whenever I can. These things take a lot more time when you don't have a "team" to take care of a lot of work for you. But I enjoy it!

The Pet Shop Boys released their new album recently, titled "Yes". It's a solid album and I like everything on it. This album is filled with some very interesting chord progressions as well, probably more than any of their other albums to this point. Their chord progressions are the best part about their music as far as I'm concerned. Definitely worth a listen.

Slowly, but Surely

It has been quite a while since anything has been posted here. Since the release of Getaway I have been taking it "easy" by playing a lot of soccer here in North Carolina. I play in an Over 30 men's team which plays in a league and in tournaments. Each year we play in 3 tournaments, one in Wilmington, NC, one in Charleston, SC, and lastly in Asheville, NC. Last week my team played 4 games in two days at the State Cup in Asheville. We managed to get ourselves into the final and will play the other semi-finalist from Greensboro, NC. The game should take place by mid-December and see the winner go on to Regionals. So, it has been pretty exciting to get this far against a lot of other very good teams from around the state. I managed to score twice and get an assist in 4 games. And yes, it was damn cold in Asheville too.

Getting back to music though, I have been steadily, if not slowly, been working on new tracks. Some were written quite a while ago, while others are more recent. Some track names will include "Walk Away", "Hold My Breath", "What in the World", and "Two Faces". Of course there is a ton of work ahead of me, but not as much time as I would like to work on it. So, it's difficult to say when things will be done. But I am working along and very much enjoying the time spent doing it.

I wanted to thank "Whiskey Bottom" for being the first to not only leave a review on iTunes for Hypersoul and the album GETAWAY, but also for leaving a very positive one. The best way for Hypersoul to grow is for new fans to help out by spreading the word about the music and raising awareness. The main motivation for trying to sell as many songs as possible is to turn the money back into newer music software/equipment, which in turn will continue to improve the sound and overall quality of the tracks. So, the more people I can get behind the music, the better it will get. So, if you've heard the music, like what you hear, and want to support what I am doing, please help by leaving reviews and comments anywhere you can. I will be forever appreciative.

While the actual work may be a ways off, I am already beginning to think about what will come next. It will probably be next year sometime before another album appears. But I have a lot of music to choose from and work on, so it's something I very much look forward to.
